Police Administration Department  警務部

The Police Administration Department is in charge of general planning, basic administrative affairs and logistics such as personnel, budget, equipment, welfare, jail operation and information systems. Other important roles of the department are internal inspection and, education and training. It is also engaged in a wide range of operations: victim support programs which provide support service for the crime victims, public relations, the Police Band, and consultation service on crimes and other matters.

Community Safety Department  生活安全部

The Community Safety Department’s important task is to prevent crimes in cooperation with community members such as residents, schools and companies. For example, sharing of criminal information among community members, joint patrols, and seminars on crime prevention are effective measures for it. The department is also in charge of investigation on specified crimes such as cyber crimes, environmental crimes, and economic crimes, and prevention of juvenile delinquency.

Community Police Affairs Department  地域部

The Community Affairs Department operates “Koban”(police box) police officers who are in various activities for 24 hours, for example, patrol, visit residents and traffic enforcement. All emergency (110 ) calls are connected to the Communication Command Center of the police headquarters and relay to competent police station and police officers. The department has the mobile police unit and a helicopter for 24 hours patrol.

Criminal Investigation Department  刑事部

The Criminal Investigation Department is engaged in detecting and arresting alleged criminals who committed penal code crimes such as homicide, robbery, arson, kidnapping, theft and fraud, and drug and firearms crimes. The Identification division and the Forensic Science Laboratory provide scientific support for all kind of investigations done by the Tochigi Police, such as fingerprint identification and DNA profiling. The department is also in charge of diminishing organized crime groups in cooperation with other parties such as companies, public enterprises and communities.

Traffic Department  交通部

The Traffic Department’s major task is promotion of safety and smooth of the road traffic. To achieve the task, the department promotes traffic safety campaigns in corporation with local governments, private traffic safety groups, companies, communities etc., and enforces traffic laws and regulations. The department operates traffic signals control and provides traffic information for public. It is also in charge of driver’s license and investigation of traffic accidents.

Security Department  警備部

The Security Department’s major role is to maintain public security by taking preventive measures against disturbance such as terror or riots. The department also in charge of security guard for domestic and foreign important persons including the imperial family, and disasters relief operations.

Police Academy  警察学校

The Police Academy provides basic trainings for recruits, such as knowledge of policing and marshal arts. It also provides expert trainings for incumbent officers.

19 Police Stations  19警察署

There are 19 police stations in Tochigi Prefecture, and each police station is responsible for all police matters in its jurisdiction. “Koban “(police box) and “Chuzaisho”(residential police box) belong to a police station and are bases of patrol police officers.
