Tochigi Prefecture is situated in the northern part of Japan’s Kanto region, between 60 and 160 kilometers from Metropolitan Tokyo.
With comfortable residential areas and temperate weather, Tochigi Prefecture is an ideal place to lead a prosperous life. Tochigi is also home to the world heritage site Nikko, the city of Ashikaga with history dating back to the Muromachi period, plus places with beautiful nature and plentiful hot springs such as Kinugawa, Shiobara and Yunishigawa. And with Nikko and Oze National Parks, residents have many wonderful ways to spend their days off.

Tochigi's climate is considered temperate and humid, and natural disasters such as typhoons and floods are extremely rare. This is just one of the many factors that make Tochigi such an easy place in which to live.
Tochigi ranks 1st in the Kanto for its ratio of municipal park space to people, and second in the nation with respect to park space and the number of households. This freedom of space makes for comparatively larger household properties, consequently allowing residents to enjoy a more relaxed, comfortable lifestyle.
Furthermore, Utsunomiya, the center of Tochigi's culture and economy, is very close to Tokyo, and is home to countless administrative facilities, financial institutions, corporate headquarters and branch offices. Utsunomiya boasts the largest scope of economic influence in the entire Kanto region, and is continuing to advance into the 21st century while at the same time holding on to its many charms.

Tochigi Prefecture is home to ten four-year universities, six short-term community colleges, the Oyama National College of Technology and numerous other vocational schools. Add to that Tochigi's 80 Senior High Schools, and every year Tochigi sees a fresh, new and highly-skilled group of young people entering the work force.
