As a global excellent company creating "New Functions" of plastics, and contributing the development of society, Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. is delivering a great number of achievements by the use of advanced technologies. In this issue, we visited Kanuma Plant and interviewed with Ryuzo Sukeyasu, Plant Manager.
In this plant, we are performing two main business.
i.Plastic Sheets and Films
Manufacturing of resins which become soft by adding heat and enable to be molded in desired shape (thermoplastic resin), such as Polycarbonate, PVC, PET, acrylic, styrene, and ABS.
Also in the laboratory accompanied, to meet customer's requests, new product development is performed. Recent examples show, a transparent carport roof material while it has an effect of reducing the temperature-rise of the inside of car in summer, and a product difficult to be made dirty by special top-surface treatments.
ⅱ.Water Proof Related．
Manufacturing, research and development, and design development of construction for special soft sheets, made of mainly PVC which can maintain water proof function for longer periods, and processed steel plate or materials covered by the resin, used for such as housing roofs, general constructions, pools, and thermal storage tanks.
In July 1970, previous company Tsutsunaka Plastic Industries in Osaka, had built factory in here to provide reliable and prompt service of plastic products to customers in the Kanto region in the period of high economic growth.
We had decided our development in here by considerations of such factors as, the site was located within 100 km area from the Tokyo metropolitan area, located in adjacent to the Kanuma interchange of the Tohoku Expressway just before its opening, and other important factors such as an availability of soil, water, and affluent work forces.
In July 2007, company name had been changed to Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. by merger, and has been continued until present date.
Firstly plastic sheets and films. By adding colors or forming to the sheets and films, they are widely used in various fields including in near your households such as transparent sound-proof boards on roads, car port roof materials, inside illuminating signboard, interior materials for railway cars, game machines, medical equipment, construction machines, bathroom door panels, parts for home appliances, credit cards, and others.
The other product is water proof related which includes, manufacturing, development, design, construction, and technical instructions of water proof materials and water proof constructions for home roof tops and verandas, roof water proofing for gymnastics and art museums, beautiful finish of pool waterproof, thermal storage tanks for energy saving system, waterproof of drinking water tanks and water treatment plants. All those business are managed by one of our group company "S.B. Sheet Waterproof Systems Co., Ltd."
As a reference, recently they have installed in following facilities in Tochigi.
①Arcade and advertising sign board in Orion street
ⅰ."SUNLOID"PC Heat Ray Cutting Grade
Polycarbonate plates which maintain brightness in daylight reducing temperature-rise especially in summer by cutting heat ray without losing the sun light.
ⅱ．LUMI-KING
Applicable for guide panels and signboards, displays and partitions, and further by utilizing the characteristics of LED and acrylic light guide panel, applicable for thin type energy saving lighting equipment.
②Solar cells integrated with building top waterproof were installed at Tochigi Prefecture Sogo Bunka Center (in Utsunomiya City), as a project of "Tochigi Environmental Prefectural Strategy" initiated by Tochigi.
SUNLOID DN Solar Sheet
Water proof system integrated with solar cells; unitizing waterproof sheet and solar cells (amorphous silicon) module, light-weighted and capable of being bent features enable them to be designed and installed into various shapes with keeping the design of original constructions.
As a member of Kiyohara industrial park, we are aiming to contribute to development of community and industrial park by participating to activities such as safety traffic, and environment protection.
