Tochigi is blessed with rich nature such as Nikko National Park and Mount Nantai. It also has important historical and cultural heritage. Every year many visitors come to Tochigi to enjoy its nature and historical site.

The area in Nikko City surrounding Toshogu Shrine, Rinnoji Temple, and Futarasan Shrine were registered as the 10th World Heritage Site in December 1999. The breathtaking scenes of nature surrounding these structures make it a major sightseeing spot known around the world.

In addition, 380 year old Japanese Cedars (13,000 in total) line the Nikko Cedar Avenue for roughly 37 km, making it the longest tree lined avenue in the world. Japan’s oldest university, the Ashikaga School, as well as traditional towns like Tochigi City, are also part of the prefecture's rich heritage.

A much recent but famous site is the Twin Ring Motegi Circuit, who hosts the only Indy Car race outside of the United States. Locals and people from around the world come to enjoy the races as well as festivals and fireworks.

Festivals

Tochigi has many traditional festivals and events such as Nikko Toshogu’s 1000 Samurai Procession and Horseback Archery Festival, and Tochigi City’s Autumn Festival where beautiful doll floats are pulled around the city once every five years.
