Tochigi Prefecture is situated in the north of Japan's Kanto region, between 60 and 160 kilometers directly north of Tokyo. Surrounded by mountains and embracing the Kanto Plains,
the landscape boasts a vibrant natural environment that changes dramatically with each passing season.
Cutting through the Prefecture from north to south are the Tohoku Expressway and Tohoku
Shinkansen, Tochigi's main arteries to the rest of Japan. From east to west runs the newly
opened Kita-Kanto expressway that connects the Pacific Ocean with the Japan Sea. With
such an extensive transportation network at its disposal, Tochigi is effectively opening itself
up to the entire world, connecting people and industry like never before.
Currently automotive and digital industry sectors have located in Tochigi.
Besides these sectors, many corporations and research & development facilities transferred their factories and offices to areas within the prefecture and intensify their operations. We are taking hold of this golden opportunity by supporting local enterprises through subsidies and financing to actively help to improve research, development and technology of Tochigi’s corporations. To that effect, we are undergoing efforts to develop the “Tochigi Industrial Promotion Project” for the advancement of human resources and acquisition, industrial concentration through both promotion for local enterprises to continue in the area as well as advancement of affiliated companies, and finally, a network formation within academia, industry, and government.
It is my hope that we can, in the middle of this beautiful land, one that is highly conducive to growth and industry, work together to harness the potential of Tochigi's industrial sectors, growing and prospering as we head into the future.
I wish you best of success in Tochigi Prefecture.
Tomikazu Fukuda
Governor of Tochigi Prefecture
