外国免許切替え案内　Procedure For Obtaining a Japanese Driver's License

　受付時間　月曜日～金曜日（休日を除く） 午前 9時00分～12時00分　午後 1時00分～4時00分
　Availability : Weekday (from Monday to Friday except Public Holidays) 9:00AM to 12:00AM or 1:00PM to 4:00PM

  • 外国の免許を所持していても、日本国内では自動車を運転できません。外国の免許証を日本の免許証に切り替えるための必要な条件は下記のとおりです。

A valid driver's license from your resident country itself is not valid for driving in Japan. In order to drive a vehicle in Japan. The following conditions are necessary:

  1. 有効な外国の免許証を所持していること。
    You must have a valid driver's license from your resident country.
  2. 外国の免許証を取得後、その免許証を取得した国に通算で３か月以上滞在しており、その事実がパスポートの出入国スタンプと免許証の交付日から証明できること。
    After obtaining your foreign driver's license, you stayed in the country where the license was issued for a minimum of three months(you need documents that certify your stay).
  3. 住所が栃木県であること。
    Your address must be in Tochigi.
  • 準備する書類及び手数料 

  You must prepare the following documents and  fees:

  • 外国免許証 ※古いものがある場合はすべて

A foreign driver's license　※If you have any expired licenses after renewals, provide all of them

  • 外国免許証の日本語翻訳文（大使館、領事館又は日本自動車連盟（JAF）、ジップラス株式会社で翻訳したもの）

A translation of the foreign driver's license in Japanese (prepared by the embassy of your country or the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF・ZIPLUS Co.,Ltd))

  • 旅券（パスポート）※古いものがある場合はすべて

Passport ※If you have any old passports after renewals, provide all of them

  • 国際免許証（所持している方）

International driving permits (If you have any)

  • 日本の運転免許証を持っている方は、その運転免許証

The valid Japanese driver's license -holder brings with the driver's license

  • 日本の運転免許証を持っていない方で
    The first applicant for Japanese license brings with
    • 長中期滞在者は住民票（外国人は国籍等、日本人は本籍記載のもの）
      A certificate of residence with record of nationality or domicile of origin for a long-term or a midterm resident
    • 短期滞在者は居所証明書
      A whereabouts certificate for a short-term resident
  • 失効した日本の運転免許証を持っている方は、その運転免許証

The non valid (expired) Japanese driver's license-holder brings with it

  • 運転免許申請書、顔写真（3cm×2.4cm、6か月以内に撮影したもの）

In addition, your application for a Japanese driver's license needs a photograph (3cm×2.4cm) that was taken within the last six months

  • 原付免許　1,600円
    Moped license　1,600 yen
  • その他の免許　3,900円又は2,800円
