By the motive power of advanced and unique technologies for safety, for environment, and for attractive products, and global supplying power, TS Tech Co., Ltd. is steadily growing since established. We visited and interviewed with Kazuo Ogiwara, Manager of Tochigi General Administration Section.
TS tech Co., Ltd. (herein after TS tech ) is a global seat system supplier, founded as a manufacturer of motorcycle's seat in 1960, and currently a system supplier delivering automotive seats and interior parts from 68 locations in 13 countries across the globe.
TS Tech's main business is development and manufacturing of automotive interior parts. Automotive seats, seat trims, roof trims and others are developed and manufactured, and packaged module production of those parts is also made. For motorcycles, plastic parts such as seats and fenders are developed and manufactured for all major Japanese makes. By applying the seat manufacturing technologies, we are extending our business into a different business fields of medical chairs and seats for railway trains.
The most important our customer is Honda Motor Co.,Ltd. (here in after Honda). Almost 70 % of Honda's car are equipped with our company made seats. Since our company was established, we had been supplying our products for motorcycles and cars to Honda and others, and had been highly accepted in every area of development capability, quality, and manufacturing cost.
TS Tech Technical Center was developed in May 1990 in Isabe Industrial Park in Takanezawa Town. This area is a quiet and peaceful countryside, and "Takanezawa Genki-up Village" is closely located. In compared with a large-sized Industrial park, less traffic jams at the time of commuting is one of the advantages.
Also it takes only 10 minutes to one of Honda's factories. In the aspect of transportation and logistics, the New National Route 4 is closely located and, Tokyo is very close by Shinkan-sen from JR Utsunomiya station.
Most of fresh university or technical college graduates in our company are assigned firstly to this Technical Center. And most of our employees were relocated to Tochigi by their new assignments,
at first some people did not prefer Tochigi because of its location in a countryside. However after living for a while, they noticed the advantages of Tochigi, and now most of our employees want to stay in Tochigi.
It is a good environment for living in Tochigi with having a good natural environment, convenient transportations, and a large-sized shopping center, where most of items are available, within a few minutes by car. "Not so big city , not so countryside, and very comfortable for living and working" is our impression.

Technical Center is not a place for production, but a place for research and development.
We introduce some of the products developed from our Technical Center.
For the interior parts of cars which TS Tech develops, safety is the first priority. By Introducing the most advanced dynamic testing equipment earlier than anybody else in the industry, we had strived on research and development to evolve our safety technologies. Honda "Insight" was introduced in 2009 equipped with an active headrest mounted seat developed by us. The active headrest reduces shocks for neck when a car hit from the rear. The system was also mounted on other Honda' cars "Civic","CR-V", and "Accord for the US" and been evaluated as the highest grade of safety by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) in the US.
Automotive interior parts require not only safety but also design (looks) and multi-functional technologies such as a seat arrangement for more comfort and convenience of use for customers. To meet those needs, an easy seat arrange-able system such as, ultra seat on "Fit" or magical seat on "Odyssey" had been developed.
Recently, under floor seat was mounted on "New Step Wagon". A wide luggage space had been created by retracting the third line of seats under the floor, in addition to an increased maneuverability by various assisting functions.
TS Tech is actively striving to social contribution activities in Japan and abroad, in order to be a company harmonized with local society, and understood and expected as an entity for the future by the people in the community. It's including various activities such as donations for extensive damages caused by disasters and earthquakes, visiting for elderly nursing homes, local areas cleaning, and instructions for traffic safety.
In this Technical Center, we provide a free space in cafeteria to the local Social Welfare Association to operate their "Shop Ibuki". We have many visitors, because it is very rare case to have such a shop within a private company.
In the shop, handicapped persons can experience how to work in a private company, and at the same time they can get sales revenue by experiencing an enjoyment of selling products.
Those activities are just some of examples of our various social contributing activities. We are promoting actively by sharing the mind that we are a member of the local community.
This is my private impression though, Tochigi people look conservative and quiet, but when it counts, many people can demonstrate abilities hidden in their innermost.
Most of the people are very friendly for persons who relocated from other areas.
Our products are automotive interior parts for which drivers can feel very close by sitting or touching on them. We appreciate very much if your could enjoy getting a friendly feeling to TS tech through our products.
