Cedar trees with cannonball marks

Cedar trees with cannonball marks

  • This area became a battlefield during the Boshin War (1868-1869), which took place in the early Meiji period. This was the scene of a battle when the forces of the new government attacked the Tokugawa shogunate forces besieged in Mount Nikko, and the cannonball marks on the trunks of the cedars were left from this attack.
