In some parts of the Nikko Kaido and Reiheishi Kaido, there are small-scale dual cedar avenue, but in the vicinity of the Aizu Nishi Kaido, only the west side of the road has been extensively planted, forming the widest dual cedar avenue extending up to 30 meters in width. It is said that this was created during the Edo period to provide space for daimyo leaders to pass each other while visiting the Toshogu Shrine, as well as for pedestrians to rest.
